What have the Sentry Box staff been up to – April 19-25

We start this week with Tracy and Greg playing Lost Ruins of Arnak again, using the regular side of the board. “I didn’t go in with a specific plan, mostly playing tactically to take advantage of what came out each round. I ended up with a bunch of cards and an assistant that gained me coins or compasses, and so I bought a lot of cards during the game, of both types. I did manage to get my first token to the top of the temple track too, and defeated three Guardians, so I ended with my best score so far, 85.”

Sue painted up some skeletons from Warhammer Quest: Cursed City. “I primed them Wraithbone, then I used Gore Grunta Fur Contrast Paint for the gallows, Aggaros Dunes Contrast Paint for the ropes and parchment, and I just did a simple brown wash right over the primer to create the aged bones look of the skeletons. I love Games Workshop models, they have so much character and detail that they practically paint themselves!”

Jenn and Renee had just started playing Exit: The House of Riddles when Christopher came over to check it out and ended up joining them for the game. “He mostly helped with finding and reading the answer cards, but he did check out some of the puzzles with us. This was an easier one and we never got a puzzle that really stumped us, but they were fun to solve. In this one you’re working your way through a series of rooms, which is mimicked by you working your way through the book. We really enjoyed the theme so overall it was a really fun one.”

Kris has been trying to work on some of the Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms miniatures that he has amassed. “This one was good fun, and I even managed to remember to not glue her to the base first this time! I really like the look of some of the range and think they would make really nice models for D&D too.”

Greg picked up the Tribes and Prophecies expansion for Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar as he’d heard good things, so he and Tracy gave it a spin. “The Tribes give players individual special powers to use during the game and the Prophecies offer another way to score throughout the game, as well as penalties for certain actions. I did enjoy the added variety and the way it gave you a bit of a different focus.”

Greg has played Zombie Kidz Evolution with Alex off and on over the past year or so, but now Luke can join in (even if he does get a bit bored towards the end). “We’ve unlocked five of the envelopes so far and Alex is enjoying the new things that are added.”

Greg and family have been isolating at home this past week, so it’s meant that he’s played quite a few games with the kids. “Alex definitely prefers the co-operative games like Unicorn Glitterluck: A Party for Rosalie, Richard Scarry’s Busytown Eye Found It, and Monster Chase. We have played a few competitive games too though, including Unicorn Glitterluck: Cloud Crystals, Richard Scarry’s Busytown: Busy Busy Airport, Zingo: Sight Words, and Cardline: Animals.”

Greg has also been playing another solo campaign of Dice Throne Adventures using the Barbarian. “He’s an absolute beast and I’ve mostly been crushing it, even on Insane difficulty. So far the only game I’ve lost is the pictured one, ironically against the Fallen Barbarian. I only need to face the Mad King now, and I’m feeling confident!’

We end this week with Tracy and Greg playing another game of Lost Ruins of Arnak, this time on the Snake Temple side. “We both struggled a bit, and on the final round we both needed one stone tablet to improve our scores quite a bit. Instead, we were left with unused resources and sad faces. It ended up being a super close game, with just two points between us.”
