What have The Sentry Box been up to – Sept 7-13

Greg played The Rise of Queensdale, “We’d had a fairly long hiatus from this legacy game, so it took a while to re-familiarize ourselves with it. The game play is fairly straightforward, at least for now, with players rolling their dice at the start of the round and then taking it in turns to play them to gather resources, build buildings, scout for herbs, etc. We’re still early in the game, so the story line hasn’t really got going too much yet, but it seems like it has potential. I can see how it will make players diverge in ability and strategy as the games progress, so I’m hoping we can play more often now that it’s made it back to the table.”

Greg made Tracy play not one, but two more games pf The Rise of Queendale the next evening. “I won the first, advancing to the next Epoch, and unlocking a bunch of new content. The game has a pretty good catch up mechanic though, to stop a runaway leader, and Tracy comfortably won the second game. I finally found a use for my Stonemaier Treasure Chest pieces too, as they work really well for this game!”

Greg also played Deckscape: Escape from Alcatraz, “This was one that we started pretty well but then we made a couple of slight errors that seemed like it was going to affect our score badly, but in the end we were still able to finish with the best ranking. There were some enjoyable puzzles in it. Nothing too obscure or complicated, but satisfying to solve.”

Since Renee and Jenn have been making a point of playing older favourites they haven’t played in a while, and they had rediscovered how much they love 7 Wonders Duel, Renee picked up the Pantheon expansion. “I had heard it was a fantastic addition to the game so I wanted check it out. It adds a board with cards that are placed during the first era and revealed at the start of the second era, after which you can buy and activate a card’s ability instead of your regular turn. We played it a couple of times and can say that we found it really changed your choices and strategy and as promised, made it one of those expansions that becomes an absolute must play every time. If you enjoy 7 Wonders Duel, this is an easy recommendation.”
