Gaming Industry News for April 20th

Hey folks,
Lots of new news and announcements this week!

First and obviously most importantly, we have a new Author stepping up whilst Tracy goes on Maternity Leave.  I am sure you will join everyone in the Sentry Box family wishing her and Greg well with the next addition to their own brood!

So, unfortunately that means you are stuck with me (Kris) to try to keep you all entertained.

That obviously leads in to our actual news:

First up, Games Workshop has their Big FAQ 1 out for 2018, this is a huge deal for all of the Warhammer 40,000 fans out there and you can read more about it here.

Games Workshops new approach is to release the “Big FAQ” twice a year in March and September (Yes we know its April, it’s not our fault they are late!) where they tackle any big changes to their flagship game trying to address Balance they cover 4 main areas in this update;

1) New Official Matched Play Rules

2) FAQs and Errata

3) New Organised Event Guidelines

4) New Beta Rules

So, if you are a 40K player and have some how missed it, make sure you check it out!

Not wanting to be out done by themselves, Games Workshop also launched their newest Warhamer: Age of Sigmar the Idoneth Deepkin!

From out of blackness they come, emerging from the depths of the realms’ seas upon a surging tide of magic. These merciless raiders do not seek merely to slaughter or enslave, however, for they are the Idoneth Deepkin – they have come to take their victims’ very souls. They bring with them the magic of their kingdoms, an ethersea of roiling currents and crushing pressures. In their passing, the Idoneth leave ruin, death and sleepers that will never awaken – victims whose souls have been stolen. Retreating beneath the waves, the Idoneth return to the utter isolation of the depths.

This entirely new addition to the Warhammer Mythos will be available on Saturday April 21st.

Continuing on our Miniatures Gaming opening we should be receiving the  newest addition to the Wyrd Games Malifaux line soon (TM)

The new releases normally sell quick so make sure you get in touch with the store if you really want one of these lovely(?) models.

FFG’s catch all roleplay system Genesys has its first expansion book coming out this week.

Realms of Terrinoth is a book meant to spark your imagination as a Game Master running a game in the fantasy setting of Mennara. Realms of Terrinoth includes a full history of the land of Mennara, with an overview of its various regions and a breakdown of the enthralling NPCs that can be found there. Even beyond the rich fantasy trappings, you can look for new mechanics like Heroic Abilities and a slew of new talents, weapons, and more. These new mechanics stem from the world of Terrinoth, but they can be expanded to any fantasy setting that you imagine. Use Realms of Terrinoth to run a campaign in the world of Mennara, or as a source of inspiration for your own setting. With Genesys, the choice is always yours.

From Corvus Belli we are expecting the new Uprising book, this is a new expansion book that will mark a before and after in the history of the Infinity Universe. Through the long-awaited JSA and Mercs, the Infinity background goes forward in way unexpected for many. The Japanese Uprising and their schism from Yu Jing brings forth the Non-Aligned Armies (NA2), a new faction that encompasses JSA, plus StarCo, the Ikari Company, and the Druze Bayram Security, the new Mercenary Companies. Also, Infinity Uprising contains all the Dire Foes, with new material that reveals how their stories are linked and contributed to the Japanese Uprising. After Infinity Uprising, the Infinity Universe will never be the same!

This is a new book for Infinity that provides all the details about the new Non-Aligned Armies (NA2), including the mercenary companies StarCo, the Ikari Company, and the Druze Bayram Security. It also contains first-hand information regarding the Japanese Uprising and the fate of the JSA.

In this book you will also find the background of all the Dire Foes and their seven new, ready-to-play scenarios, in normal or narrative mode and adapted to the ITS format, and the Sectorial Army Charts of the new JSA and the new mercenary companies.
Infinity Uprising

While supplies last, purchases of this book will include an Exclusive Miniature From Uprising Book “Brawlers Mercenary Enforcer” so make sure you have your pre-orders in to snag a cool model too!

Infinity (#710): JSA Sectorial Army Pack

Speaking of cool models we are also expecting the new JSA Sectorial Army Pack to arrive as well. The proud Japanese, who had been humiliated and treated like second class citizens by the StateEmpire for far too long, rose up against their oppressors and claimed their freedom. The Japanese Uprising was a brief but terribly intense and savage conflict for which the Japanese paid a high price in blood for their victory, but finally managed to tear away from Yu Jing. After the Uprising, the Japanese Secessionist Army, or JSA, has been reformulated based on the figure of the servo-powered samurais, as natural leaders both in spirit and in combat. However, the JSA maintains its nature of being primarily an assault force, because the Bushido doctrine requires no less.

A box with 9 new and incredible miniatures belonging to JSA, a Japan completely independent of Yu Jing, part of the Non-Aligned Armies (NA2). It includes an introductory manual, scenery, dice … everything you need to start with Infinity or expand your collection!

Included in the box:

  • 3 Keisotsu Butai
  • 2 Ryuken Unit-9
  • 1 Kempeitai
  • 1 Daiyokai Dengekitai
  • 1 Oniwaban
  • 1 Kuge Delegate
  • 1 Kuroshi Rider, Aragoto Senkenbutai Riku-Gun-Shoi
  • The Kurage Station Scenery Pack
  • 3 twenty-sided JSA dice
  • A full-color, 80 page booklet containing introductory JSA background, the Infinity Quick Start Rules, 3 ready-to-play missions, and everything you need to learn about the Infinity Universe.

Also in the Infinity Universe we finally received stock of the new RPG from Modiphius.
Infinity RPG: Core Rulebook

As you can see it, it has been a fairly long wait and it is already selling out with our distributors so make sure you call in and pick it up while you can!

Like a lot of you, the Sentry Box staff (OK, just me really) were hooked as soon as Star Wars: legion arrived and we finally got a restock of everything except the core set.

We also have it on good authority that the new General Veers Commander Expansion is shipping this week, so all you loyal Imperial Commanders will have reinforcements on the way.

Imperial troops are known across the galaxy for their great discipline, marching without hesitation into the thick of battle. Rather than being an inherent trait, this discipline is ingrained in these troops by their commanders, and no one embodies the steely determination of the Imperial legions more than General Maximilian Veers.

During the Battle of Hoth, Veers led the Imperial ground assault on Echo Base with surgical precision, personally firing the shots that destroyed the Rebels’ main power generator. Soon, you’ll be able to install this cool and efficient commander at the head of your Imperial armies with the General Veers Commander Expansion.

Taking a step away from Star Wars in to another franchise we had the announcement that Ares Games will be publishing a Battlestar Galactica theamed game.

The Battlestar Galactica – Starship Battles will be based on the TV series and will include both the “Classical” and “Reimagined” settings. The licensing agreement covers both the classic series created by Glen Larson in the 1970s as well as the more recent series developed by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick which ran until 2010.

From the creators of both Wings of Glory and Sails of Glory, this new game will feature fully assembled and pre-painted miniatures.  With the game expected to preview at GenCon 2018 we will keep all you BSG fans posted as we get more info!

Last week we brought you the news that Steamforged had their new skirmish miniatures game heading to Kickstarter and if you had been keeping an eye on our Facebook page you will have seen that we are backing it as a store.
Choose YOUR Warband. Build YOUR Legacy.
We are limited to the All in pledge and can only get a maximum of eight pledges, with preorders already taken for six, make sure you don’t miss out on what is sure to be another hit game from the folks over at Steamforged.

Other Kickstarters that caught our eye this week are:

Chaosium Inc.’s new board game Miskatonic University: The Restricted Collection Board Game; A push your luck, set collection card game from the creators of Call of Cthulhu and board game design legend Reiner Knizia.

Other than looking Fabulous on any shelf the game is a quest.  An extremely dangerous quest. Dr Henry Armitage, Chief Librarian, needs you to search the perilous Restricted Collection for fragments of lore from among the grimoires, and recover pieces of a particular sigil.

It all began when, as leading scholars at Miskatonic University, you were gathered together to discuss who would be awarded the coveted position of Head of the Library Committee. Suddenly tragedy and horror struck—a monster had been unleashed, presumably by some foolish graduate student! Dr. Armitage leapt into action and asked for your help. He needs you to gather the necessary tools to banish the foul abomination.

You explore the Restricted Collection for the grimoire fragments and sigils he needs. However it is a perilous journey and you must be prepared to flee before you are driven mad! The victor is the professor who finds the most sets, while retaining a semblance of sanity. Also, look out for hapless wandering graduate students as they can aid in your defenses!

So get in touch and let us know if this is one you want us to support!
